Murai was born in Long Beach, California to Hiro Murai and Emma Barrie. His father is Japanese and His mother is of Ashkenazi Jewish, English, French-Canadian, German, Irish, Northern Irish (Scotch-Irish), Scottish, Swedish, Swiss and Welsh descent.
